The People – Anna-Orleana Brittain & Nema Rose

A family affair that has come to fruition. Grassetto Leone Brownies has been a dream for many years. Anna-Orleana Brittain & Nema Rose, (daughter & mother) grew up in Yakima, in the Central part of Washington. Nema owned a family restaurant many years ago and Anna-Orleana worked there, doing everything from bussing tables, serving, hosting, and bartending, you name it, she did it. After college and many years as a mom Anna-Orleana decided to explore other business areas and moved back to the Yakima area where she was reunited with her mother. After a few years mother & daughter were offered an opportunity to re-live a long sought after dream.

Anna-Orleana’s career started in Seattle, WA and Coeur d’Alene, ID where she obtained her degree in Business Management. From there, she decided to pursue working as a real estate agent. After living her life in the real estate world, she decided to head back to Yakima where she continued to pursue her current career as a restaurant owner. It wasn’t until a divorce that Anna-Orleana discovered the missing part of her life…baking. This in turn, led daughter & mother joining their love of food. When Anna-Orleana & Nema joined again in the restaurant business, they learned of each other’s mutual food knowledge and passion. In turn, as a hobby Nema started experimenting with chocolate. Soon she was creating unique varieties of rich, decadent brownies.

Anna-Orleana was involved with Community organizations and they often were asked to provide brownies for auctions and private dinner parties they prepared. These brownies became so popular, they decided to start a small bakery company called Grassetto Leone, which has grown into a full-blown brownie business.

Anna-Orleana convinced Nema to experience the opportunity, which had arisen to open the Grassetto Leone’s bakery. After being retired for several years Nema was happy to re-live her dream that she lost many years before. Nema has worked in the food arena since she was very young. She has done everything from serving as head baker to catering for hundreds. Her expertise and love in the food arena will bring a critical key to the success of this business. Nema also has the great gift of artistry and as such has provided the invaluable key to bring her expertise to the new family business.
